Hosting:
We run our own Linux servers in an approved datacentre near our offices in Newcastle. Firstly, the datacentre has a gas fire suppression system and strict security access to prevent anyone just waling in. Secondly, by having something called co-located backup we have all web data stored in a different location. This means if the building burnt to the ground the data could be re-launched in a matter of hours.
Our two primary servers:
Web Server 1: This Web server is the master web server and runs CentOS in conjunction with a LAMP stack. The web server has two quad core 2.5Ghz Intel processors with 4GB of DDR2 Ram and three 160GB hard disks in Raid 5.
Web Server 2: This Web server is the slave web server and runs CentOS in conjunction with a LAMP stack. The web server has two quad core 2.5Ghz Intel processors with 4GB of DDR2 Ram and three 160GB hard disks in Raid 5. This server replicates all files and databases etc from web server 1 using rsync.
Further to this we have spare disks and two spare servers sitting in our office ready to step in to cope with a natural disaster or massive hardware failure.
